fenchurch: (Dr Horrible Animated)

Huh.

That was... actually a bit of a letdown. I was expecting something with just a bit more of a twist, not quite so straightforward. And it doesn't really match the light-heartedness of the other two episodes... in fact, it was different enough that it felt almost tacked on, like Joss didn't quite know how to end it. Or maybe it needed to be another episode long or something, because it simply doesn't fit with the rest of the story.

So, um... huh.

Joss made me cry; I was genuinely moved, but it just didn't feel right. Like you said, it didn't have the same tone.

That was a downer, and an end I don't think he bought.

Seemed to take a turn to Sondheim and ended up as Sweeny Todd.

On one hand, it was a let down-- on the other at least it didn't go quite as predicably as I feared.

But then Joss isn't really into happy endings... so it shouldn't be a surprise.

Holy crap. Joss certainly knows how to aim that sucker punch to the gut of the unsuspecting viewer. Shades of Wash!

I didn't feel it was a letdown. A downer, certainly, but not disappointing. I'm more impressed (though I shouldn't be surprised) that he made me care so much about the characters in such a short period.

And the one-liners were priceless. "I hate the homeless! ... -ness problem..." "The hammer is my penis!" "We do the weird stuff!"

Actually, I thought it was typically (and perfectly) Joss. First of all, kill the woman (because Joss is all about female empowerment, don'tca know), and then tear the heart out of his audience. It's his trope to go from comedy to tragedy in the blink of an eye.

Having said that, I liked this episode best of the three. And, having said that, I do feel like we need a second series of Dr. Horrible webisodes because it does feel unfinished.

I agree with this. It was a pretty standard narrative and tonal shift for Joss, but I didn't think he'd earned it.

I was surprised by the ending, but I don't know about "let down," really - just surprised. But as others have said, that's Joss. Happy endings SO not him...

I probably liked it because, honestly, NPH rocks.

The thing is, I wasn't expecting a happy ending, per se. I was just expecting... more. I don't know. Something a little less cliché. And the sudden change of tone did seem a bit jarring... plus there seemed to be build-up of plot points and characterization that went pretty much nowhere. So there ends up being this vague feeling of dissatisfaction, even though the ending does work.

Definitely agree about the rocking of NPH, though!

I thought it was an absolutely appropriate ending. The rise of Dr. Horrible.

Sure.. he lost his gal.. Isn't that what happened to Victor Freeze, another doctor? Who was trying to avenge a corrupt system that turned on him?

I sooooo want that red labcoat.

I'm debating buying a Dr. Horrible T-shirt.

It's BRILLIANT.

It probably could have worked in four parts, so we could have had a little more buildup with a little less letdown there in the final chapter.

I'm on the NPH love bandwagon definitely!

Yep. So much yes. MMW and I watched it last night, and we got done and both said, "Um...yeah." I loved the second part so much, but the third didn't feel quite right.

You know, the thing with the whole three episodes, is that it's a origin story. How Dr. Horrible turns from a winning wanna be, to the horrible force of evil that he is... For me, it's a story told from the future, where he is a terrifying force of evil, all becuase of happenstance.

As far as the twist. I was expecting one from Josh, (some time to really throw us off, he'll just tell it straight, and we'll all cry) I was just irritated that a major charecter, with developement consequences on the star, was killed by chance. Then again, I'm not taking this little thing to seriously... Me? Josh said he would not do another musical... My soul is happy!!! *bounce* I want the CD!!!

...it felt almost tacked on, like Joss didn't quite know how to end it.

That was my reaction, too.
