The Symposium was a blast, per usual. It was great spending time with so many old friends after all this time, and I really missed seeing [livejournal.com profile] kenrand this year (get feeling better soon!!!!). I finally met up with [livejournal.com profile] agilebrit at the banquet on Saturday (pretty much the LAST event of the Symposium, other than filking). It's funny, too, because we'd both been looking for each other, we've actually *met* in person before and it turned out we'd been bumping into each other all weekend without realizing it and yet we still didn't recognize each other. I recall seeing her and thinking she looked familiar, but nearly everyone does at this event. The best part was that earlier in the evening, we'd even spoken to each other about the Firefly themed t-shirts we were each wearing, without realizing who we were talking to. *facepalm*

Being back at my former university this time was odd in another way... for the first time, it made me feel *old*. I was looking at all the students milling about and they were all *children*. No, really! Okay, maybe not children, but oh so young. Did I look that young when I was there? Probably. Wow.

And then there's another experience that only comes with the realization of age. There was someone at the Symposium this year who has been, as best as I can put it, a casual acquaintance. This time though, we had a few chances to really chat and I would now classify him as a friend... someone I'll probably email from time to time, that sort of thing. The weirdness comes from the fact that I remember when he was born. I babysat him when he was a few months old. I've been friends with his parents, J & L, since before he was born. J was the best man at our wedding and L actually went to high school with [livejournal.com profile] rackham... I believe they even dated a time or two back then. I have lived long enough to start becoming friends with the *children* of my old friends. Weird. Really weird.

I did learn some interesting things about The Diet on this trip... like the fact that it's a whole lot easier to deal with eating out than I thought it would be, and that buffet-style places can actually be better than a regular restaurant, as long as you can keep control.

Yesterday was my normal weigh-in day... and since I was in Utah, I borrowed my mother-in-law's scale. I ended up marveling a bit at what it told me, rapidly came to the conclusion that the scale had to be off (although my mother-in-law swore it was calibrated to match the one at her doctor's office), took a brief moment to savor the number and then figured I'd get the real result when I got home. So, today I ran up to the YMCA... and discovered that the other scale wasn't lying. So... even with all the eating out I did last week, I still managed to lose another five pounds (yes, in a week). This makes for a total of 10 pounds in the last three weeks. Eeeeee!!!! I know it's not going to keep going like this... but I'm already down to the weight I'd reached before the car accident, so I'm happy!

Unfortunately, I managed to pick up a nice case of bronchitis while I was in Utah. I'd really been hoping to avoid it, but I just don't deal well with the cold air and the inversions that hold the pollution down in the valleys in that state. I had chronic bronchitis when we lived there and have loved being free of it since we left... I'm hoping this bout doesn't stick around very long. Bleh.

All in all, it was a fun trip, but it's wonderful to be home again.

I'm doing Weight Watchers Online... I've got a ton of friends who have been doing it for awhile now and I finally succumbed to the peer pressure. :-) I've really been enjoying it, though, and it seems to be working really well!

I remember doing that a couple of years ago... I should probably pick it back up! I've been paying for my account this entire time. XD

Heh! Definitely worth picking up again then!

I've posted a few of my favorite recipes already... and I'll probably be posting more in the future (I tend to think that cooking is half the fun of eating, so I'm doing a lot of experimenting), so keep an eye out! I should also probably look at setting up a separate tag for WW recipes.

Looks like I've got two WW recipes out on my LJ so far... I set up a tag for them here: http://fenchurche.livejournal.com/tag/ww+recipes

So sorry to hear that you have bronchitis -- but the weekend sounds great anyway!

I'm glad that you had such a fun time and that you managed it so well with WW.

But remember, you're not on a diet. You're changing habits. So you majorly succeeded by not succumbing to normal con-going behaviors.

10 pounds in 3 weeks!!!!! WOW!!! That is awesome! I really need to get going on this diet of mine. My 20 year HS reunion is coming up in May and I'd love to have 25 off by then.

Sorry you are ill, but glad you had a good trip anyway. :)

Welcome home! It sounds like you had a good time! Yes, you probably were that young. ;) Personally, I feel old every time I go to class. I sit there and go, "damn, was I this green at twenty?" And I probably was; it just doesn't feel that way when you're there I guess. I had a moment in group this week when I realised I was biologically old enough to have given birth to every other person in my classroom. Shudder. Sure, I'd have been like ten, but still. Theoretically, I could be their mother.

Exactly! It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. Lather, rinse, and repeat.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I've had a great amount of success in my first three weeks, too. It's such a great program!

Feel better soon. Take care of yourself.

Hooray for eating better getting easier! :)

I found that was the case for me when I went on my church retreat last weekend.

Yikes! I hope you feel better soon! *HUGS*

I'm considering this, as I just cannot get to "live" meetings. Is it really helpful?

Nothing has come through so far, I'm afraid. I thought at first that it might just be taking a bit to get through our anti-spam procedures, but there still hasn't been anything. :-(

That's weird. :(

Well, I'll give it another try. (I'm new at this mod/maintainer thing LOL) Maybe I did it wrong. If it still doesn't work, go to the comm called Unquiet Community (in my user info) and click the bit at the top where it says you want to join. Then [livejournal.com profile] psubrat can make it official. I'm sorry!

OK, I just invited you again. You should get a message in your LJ message inbox saying that you have been invited to join Unquiet Corner. Then I think it gives you the option to decline or to accept or to read the User Info page for the comm. Please let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks! Sorry again for the confusion.
