Visiting the Market

fenchurchOh yeah... the other thing we did on Saturday. Since we were downtown anyway, we figured we'd hit Pike Place Market. It's been ages since we were last there, and I was astonished by how few people there were (although I'm guessing this was because it's not exactly tourist season anymore). Not to say that the place wasn't busy, it's just that it was a Saturday around noon and there was still room to move down the corridor! It's usually packed in there!
We didn't get a lot... some alder planks for grilling salmon (I'm allergic to cedar, and so far the only place I've found that sells alder planks is a salmon store at the Market), some fresh green beans and honeycrisp apples, and a few jars of Mick's Peppourri Garlic Pepper Jelly. That stuff is fantastic... and we really like to have it around during the holidays. Just pour it over a brick of cream cheese and serve it with wheat thins and it's one of the yummiest snacks around. And, even better, we picked up some baked salmon sandwiches for lunch, and then stopped into Piroshky Piroshky to grab one of their apple cinnamon tarts to split for dessert. Mmmm....
Now we get to spend the next few days getting ready for Thanksgiving... we're going to my dad's, but we're also providing the turkey (yes, I'll admit it, I'm a cooking snob and I want to brine the turkey, which my dad won't do) as well as some of the pies, a cranberry compote and a fruit salad. I'll have to see about reposting some of the recipes we use, over the next few days, in case anyone is interested.
