Flaky internet and six random things

It's been a frustrating sort of weekend, when it comes to the internet. We figured out that the problem was with our DSL modem (we borrowed [livejournal.com profile] taradaktyl's DSL modem for a few hours and it had no problems maintaining a connection) but are having to wait until Monday for the new one to arrive. Why do these sorts of things always happen right before the weekend, anyway?

We actually ended up with a few hours of connection on Saturday, which I used to try to get caught up on scanning LJ and to play on one of my favorite MMORPGs (hey, I had to satisfy those addictions while I had the chance!) and for almost two hours today, before things got flaky again (we have about a minute or two of access out of every five minutes or so). Grrr. It's almost, but not quite, more frustrating than having no access at all.

Oh yeah, and to add to the fun, one of the hard drives in our mail server decided to die this morning. It's still under warranty, but what a pain! Bad hard drive. No biscuit.

I have no idea if I was tagged for this, since I've been having some trouble keeping up with my flist, but here it is anyway!
Write a journal entry with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends list and tag them - no tag backs. These rules should be included in your entry.

1. I have one near-sighted eye and one far-sighted eye. They balance each other out fairly well.

2. When I was four years old, I wanted nothing more in the world than to grow up to be a geologist. My favorite Christmas present that year was a rock pick.

3. I enjoy hiking barefoot.

4. Even though I'm in my mid-30s, I'm still getting taller, although it's slowed down to about 1/8th of an inch a year (I was 5'3" when I graduated from high school and am now up to 5'7").

5. I can't stand the taste of high fructose corn syrup. In fact, I can't stand the taste of sweeteners other than cane sugar, unless they're in something designed specifically for their unique flavor (for example: xylitol in gum, honey or maple in some baked goods, that sort of thing).

6. When I was in high school, I could recite from memory the entire text of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I can still manage very large portions of it.

I have no idea who might have already done this one, but I'm going to tag a few anyway: [livejournal.com profile] wildrider, [livejournal.com profile] celedraug, [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat, [livejournal.com profile] rahirah, [livejournal.com profile] cynthdiane, and [livejournal.com profile] queenofattolia.

I am deeply jealous of this.

Is this true with anyone else in your family or were you just the lucky one?

My dad did the same thing, but it's a little more common for guys to grow later in life. He was around 5'7" or so when he graduated from high school and got up to just over 6' (he's at the age now where he's starting to shrink a bit, so I don't think he's nearly that tall).

I have one nearsighted and one farsighted eye, too, although I'm also astigmatic in both (and now have presbyopia), so I've had to wear glasses since I was five. And...you keep getting taller? I'm jealous beyond belief.

My mom has one near-sighted and one far-sighted eye too.

The people in Fahrenheit 451 would be proud of you! :)

Very interesting facts. I wish I could get a little taller, but I haven't grown since I was 13. :)
