I'm still alive! Really!

I just keep forgetting to update my LJ -- I got out of the habit over the holidays.

We had a good Christmas at my in-laws' house (we always do though... I love going there for the holidays). However, we once again had to practically waddle home. Utah has too many good restaurants, and when we're only going to be there for a week or two, we wind up eating out for nearly every meal. Not the ideal recipe for continued weight-loss.

I've started in on Fellowship of the Ring, trying to go by the schedule over at [livejournal.com profile] book_harpies, though it's still not an easy read. I've always appreciated the literary merit of Tolkien's work and I've enjoyed the stories, but I just don't mesh well with his writing style for some reason. It isn't that it's too difficult or anything, I just find it... um... well, a bit long-winded and dull. So far, though, it has helped that I've seen the movies... I find I'm able to skim through a lot of the stuff that would otherwise drag it down (and don't worry, I really do understand why people like the books and I can appreciate that, they're just not something I would normally read).

I did a run to Ikea today with a quick stop in at Fry's Electronics (and have I mentioned recently how happy I am that they finally opened a store in the area?). Picked up some new power strips -- one for the garage for some of the rearranging I have in mind and one to mount on the wall above the computer desks for our various techie toys. As I was leaving I gave [livejournal.com profile] rackham a quick call to see if there was anything he wanted me to pick up... and to tell him that the price on my refrigerator had dropped to $5979 (still WAAAAAAY more than I'd pay for a fridge, trust me, but about $3000 less than it was when I first started drooling over it). His response, dead-pan: "I find it incredibly disturbing that you keep referring to it as YOUR refrigerator." Hee!

Mmm... ikea. Ikea makes me happy. And it's totally normal to obsess over appliances. I still live at home, and I already know the fridge I want.

And this fridge has a built in computer that can be hooked up to your home LAN to access the internet or whatever you have on your internal network -- mp3s, streaming audio, streaming video, email.

*sigh*

Someday.

That's one darn expensive fridge ya' got yer eye on there. But hey, I see it's hooked to the net, so hey... bonus!

So know what you mean about Utah food. I got a few favorites there I just can't escape the city without hitting when visiting the in-laws...

You're not hooked on Brazilian Grills too, are you? There's Rodizio's in SLC and Tucano's down in Provo. Yum. And I'm slightly ashamed to admit it, but I love Chuck-a-Rama -- everything is fresh-made and they have Apple Beer on tap.
