Thursday: Wait, are those what I think they are?!?
So, on Thursday I was heading down the valley toward Redmond when something caught my eye in a tree off to the side of the road about a mile from our house. And oh my gosh, yes... yes they really were what I thought they were! I turned around the first chance I got and thanked my lucky stars that I at least had my little pocket Lumix camera in the car (although I *really* wish it had been my nice Canon EOS with the good lens, instead) and didn't just have to depend on my cellphone's camera.
Four Bald Eagles, sitting in a tree. Yep, FOUR! I mean, I've seen lone Bald Eagles flying around from time to time, so I knew we had at least one in the area, but wow!! I don't know how easy it is to tell, but in the photo there are two adults and two juveniles... I rather suspect they're last year's chicks, not quite to full adulthood. And those suckers are HUGE... they were definitely eye-catching! They funny thing is that when I drove back by about two hours later, they were still in that tree. And on Friday, I drove by and spotted one adult and one juvenile in that same tree. Apparently, it's a favorite perch (and that must be a new thing because I'm positive I would have noticed them before).
