The season premiere of Veronica Mars
I finally got a chance to head out to MSN to take a look!
Typing up comments as I go...
New credits aren't bad, but seem to lack the punch of the old ones.
Yay!!! Francis Capra is in the credits!! I was worried we wouldn't be getting much Weevil this year, considering how things were left at the end of last season.
Ah, Veronica... still true to form and finding the workaround. Her professors aren't going to know what hit them.
Wow... and I thought the dorm rooms on BtVS were huge.
Piz. Um. Hmm. I was going to keep an open mind, because the little bit I'd let myself read about him didn't sound horrible... but wow, the actor really can't act, can he? Those were funny lines, but the delivery just fell flat. The character's already starting off in a bad spot, with a name like Piz... they needed to hire someone a bit more vivacious maybe... or perhaps just not, well, dull.
Oh, and look at that... he's also *stupid*. Yeah, lots of strange people milling around in a place you're completely unfamiliar with and you leave all of your worldly possessions in an unlocked car. Dumb.
Augh!!! These should be funny lines! And funny scenes! I think he's supposed to be bumbling, but it's just not working.
Bwah!!! Veronica just said EXACTLY what I did earlier about Piz.
Okay, Dick's stunt at the Take Back the Night rally? Beyond offensive. OTOH, listening the laundry list of things the rally folks wanted the university to do? Not entirely sure how most of them had anything to do with stopping a serial rapist.
Hee! Logan should consider going pro...
Deputy Sacks!!! Yay!!
Parker does seem to be a walking college roommate cliche, but you know... I've met way too many people like that, so it works for me.
Hee! Young kids who hang out at the college to ogle the girls.
Mac refering to Dick as "Needs hosed down" -- Hee!!
Dick is going to end up in jail if this keeps up.
I know people were worried about Piz as a potential love interest for Veronica... but aside from his first reaction to her in the dorm room, he doesn't seem interested in her at all.
I'm guessing there's a point to the Keith scenes, but at least they're mercifully short.
Awwwww... Logan is so sweet!
Dick is just painful to watch.
Okay, sort of a slight glimmer of maybe interest from Piz after Logan saves Dick... but delivered in such a way that it sounded more like he was just trying to be funny. Still just incredibly flat. I hate it when this happens... these lines would be hysterical if they were said by someone who could handle them. He may not even be that bad of an actor, it could just be that he's not a good fit for the role. It's sort of like the difference between Takashima and Ivanova on Babylon 5... when I watch the pilot now, I can just hear in my head Takashima's lines being said by Ivanova, and from her they work! Tamlyn Tomita is actually a really good actress, she just couldn't pull off the lines being given to her in the way that Claudia Christian could.
Ah, okay. Finally something from Piz that could be considered blatant interest.
I'm confused... What was Vinnie's stuff doing in Keith's car? And why did that make Keith run back into the house? Did I miss something somewhere?
I didn't recognize Dick at the door, he looked that bad.
I was spoiled for the ending, just a bit, from catching glimpses of comments here and there on LJ, so it wasn't a big shock. I'm guessing she the roommate was raped, too? Or did she have consensual sex with a guy who shaved off her hair afterward, while she was asleep? I mean the implication would be that she was raped, considering the ongoing storyline, but the timing of her reaction seems to point to being distraught over the loss of her hair. Or am I overthinking this?
Overall, a good start to the season... though I'm really hoping Piz doesn't eat up a lot of screentime. Why did they have to cast such an awful actor for a character who's apparently going to be around for awhile? Honestly, they should just brought back Michael Cera to play Wallace's roommate... because the dialogue for the new character sounds exactly like the sort of things they had his character saying in "The Rapes of Graff" last year, only he pulled it off.
