It's always funny to watch Numfar when she's figuring something out... because you really can almost see the gears turning in her tiny kitty brain. She's actually rather fond of the piano... she likes to hop up and step on the keys and then stop to listen to the sound, until I go and pull her off. On Wednesday, though, she hopped on the piano and I looked over at her... in time to see her make some unfortunate connections. She looked at the ledge on the wall next to the piano, then to some boxes on top of the piano and finally to the top of the piano. I immediately went over and moved the boxes (if you look on the floor next to the chair, you can see them... including a Doctor Who Mr. Potatohead). I really hoped that would be good enough, but no. About five minutes after I went back to my desk, I heard the telltale jangle from the piano as she hopped on the keys and then the thump as she got to the top and before I could even quite turn around, she was up on the ledge looking VERY pleased with herself. )

Ever since we got the chairs for the breakfast bar in the kitchen, we've had spectators while we cook. )

On the 25th, I just had to get another photo out across the valley in front of our house, now that the cherry tree across the street is in bloom. I never get tired of looking at that view. )

It's interesting how differently animals will react to the same thing... our first cat, Cymry, was absolutely and completely terrified of water (in fact, she had kidney issues that we think may have been largely caused by her terror of getting near water, even to drink it... she would stand as far away as she could and dip her paw in the water then drink it that way (or she'd lick leftover water off the bottom of the shower floor). Anyway, for the 15+ years we had her, every day when I took a shower she would sit in the doorway (or on the other side of the door, if I closed it) and scream and yowl... because, obviously, I was being tortured to death by all that water running over me. After she passed away, it took awhile to get used to showering in peace and quiet. Our other cats during that time, Pixel and then Polly, didn't ever even seem to notice the shower (which was probably a good thing).

Zoë has recently developed a fascination with water and will run into the bathroom to watch the water in the toilet if she hears it being flushed... and she'll also try to pry open the door to the shower so she can see the falling water more clearly. There have even been a few times when she's tried to get in the shower with one of us, although she always backs away after she gets hit with the first drop of water.

But Numfar... she goes on guard duty. )

Last weekend, we dragged out the bookcases we'd been using as an entertainment center at our old house and set them up to take photos, in the hopes that someone would want them enough to haul them away (we've gotten a few people who've expressed an interest, now we'll just have to see if they really show up to get them). And, of course, the cats got very excited about empty (and high!) horizontal surfaces. )

I've mentioned it before, but even after all these years, we have a hard time believing how well our current cats get along. Our old cats, Cymry and Polly, got to a point where they could tolerate each other... but we actually had to feed them in separate parts of the house or they'd fight.

We certainly could have never done something like this! )

Last one for tonight... This was just too perfect a setup to pass up, so I grabbed my phone and snapped a shot of Numfar sitting on top of the cat tree with the two Misters Mouse. )

Years ago, I picked up a rather comfy office chair at the Boeing Surplus store and it served as my chair for quite awhile, until we finally replaced it with a nicer, new model... at which point, it became the guest chair in the office. When Zoë came to live with us, she picked it as one of her favorite spots to sit and I'd always assumed it was because of its location (off to the side and behind us when we were sitting at our desks... where she could watch everything).

Well, a week or so after we moved into this house, we had a day where we couldn't find her. We searched all over the house, checking the spots we'd noticed she enjoyed sleeping and completely failed to find her. No worries, though, because around dinner time she magically reappeared. This happened a few more times over the next week... and then one day, I had a thought and checked the back office, where we keep the servers, some boxes and not much else... except the old office chair. And sure enough, there she was. )

And apologies for two cat photos in a row... I'm still trying to kick the last bits of the cold I picked up in Florida, which really limits my photo options.
